Care instructions for caps
Our caps are made from 100% organic cotton. Sweat, sunscreen, and natural skin oils interact with the dyes in the cap and can eventually cause discoloration. Washing your cap regularly, especially right after it becomes wet with sweat, can help prevent this.
Do not wash the cap in a washing machine, as this may damage its structure and brim. Instead, wash the cap by hand as follows:
Pre-treating sweat stains:
- Spray the sweat stains with (white) vinegar.
- Gently brush the stains with a soft, small brush, such as a toothbrush. Be careful, as brushing too hard can damage the fabric.
Washing:
- Fill a sink or bucket with lukewarm water. Add a small amount of liquid detergent or a tablespoon of stain-removal powder. Avoid using detergent with bleach or bleach alternatives to preserve the color of the cap.
- Let the cap soak in the water for about 15 to 30 minutes. Tip: If your cap floats to the surface, push it down with a bowl filled with water.
- Brush stubborn stains again with the toothbrush and a small amount of undiluted liquid detergent.
- Rinse the cap with lukewarm water.
Drying:
- Gently pat the cap dry with a towel.
- Restore the cap’s shape by placing it over an upside-down bowl roughly the size of the cap. If the bowl is too low and does not fit well inside the cap, place it on top of a large cup or something similar first.
- Wrap the cap in microfiber cloths—both on the inside (between the bowl and the cap) and on the outside.
- Allow the cap to dry completely.
Pro tip:
- Sweated a lot and don’t have detergent on hand? Rinse your cap thoroughly with water and let it dry following the steps under 'Drying'.
